Drink Tea Like The Irish | Hello Lidy

Ever since we?ve arrived, I?ve been drinking non-stop tea! I love it, since this is something I have done a long time in my family (we are dutch). I remember when my husband and I first started dating, it was kind of a ritual to have tea (or coffee for that matter). At first, he hated having hot drinks all the time. Now, he loves it!?

Ireland is the perfect place for me! I?ve recently learned that the Irish drink more tea per capita than any other country in the world! That means if there are 4 million people in Ireland, 3 million of them are drinking tea. Not to mention, they drink at least 4 to 6 cups a day?.sounds mighty familiar, I?m thinking we need to bring tons of Lyons tea home with us, it?s their most popular tea here (been around since 1902).?

So, if you are wondering how to drink tea like the Irish, here are a few things you should know:

1. Tea Time:

Dending on the time of day, makes a huge difference when and how the tea should be served. There is Elevenses which serves tea 11:00 am with scones and cookies (I?m not going to complain!). There?s the?Afternoon Tea, between 3:00 to 5:00 pm. This is usually served with a sweet item of some sort. Lastly, there is High Tea (which I?m sure you are more familiar with) which serves tea at 6:00pm with more substantial food such as meat, breads, fruit and cheese. I prefer to have my tea at random times of the day, but this is a fun way to remember how the Irish drink theirs.?

2. ?How to prepare the tea:

Everyone probably already knows that the longer you steep your tea, the stronger your cup will be. Or, how many tea bags you have in at once?sorry it that?s stating the obvious! The Irish prepare their tea the same way I have made mine for years! Simply with a little milk and a little sugar to taste! I happen to love my tea to creamy and sweet to taste! So good!?

3. Enjoy your cup of tea with someone you love:

To me, tea can be so much more enjoyable if you share it with someone you have great conversations with and love being around! It?s usually a great excuse to have a friend over or mend things with my husband if thing?s have been stressful! It?s just so wonderful to share it with someone!?

It?s been the perfect setting for tea in Ireland. It?s been rainy and cold, so our warm cups of delicious Irish tea helps sooth the soul and warm the body.

So now that you know a little bit more about the Irish and their yummy tea, are you are big time tea drinker, or do you want to be? How do you like to prepare your cup of yumminess?!

XOXO, Lidy
